Not a nice fucking way to wake up
columbia explodes in re-entry
My heart goes out to the relatives of the men and women onboard...it takes a lot of guts to do what they do, knowing that what happened today is always a possibility, if that's not true courage, I don't know what is. Rest in peace.
Update 12:15pm
Sometimes it's easy to forget that space travel is dangerous. I mean, when it started in the 60s, it was all over the news and everybody was aware of the dangerous, but it has become so normal and usual that is easy for the joe blow american to not even think of the dangers of attaching yourself to a rocket and leaving the earth, then to come back falling faster than the speed of sound. I can't even begin to comprehend what was going thru the minds of the crew of Columbia (or Challenger) when things went wrong...and it doesn't have to be a big thing to go wrong, there's barely any room for error, so even the slightest malfunction or incident, can be deadly, and sadly it was today. I just hope that the president doesn't cut funding to NASA. I don't understand that logic. Usually when things go wrong, you want to spend money to make sure it doens't happen again, but again, it's almost impossible to prevent these horrible accidents.
I'll finish this entry with a quote by the man who started the space revolution in this country, John Fitzgerald Kennedy:

"Now is the time...for this nation to take a clearly leading role in space achievement, which in many ways may hold the key to our future on Earth."
